Bobby: N@tM III was a stirring success from both a competitive and attendance point of view..
17 teams participated in the people’s major and all showed impressive acumen in the category.
In the end, Muffins evict a year long stong from the collective shoe after being forced to settle for an OT 2nd in last years MTM II. Muffins can thank a bizarre 16 point bid from Kramerica on #20 for escaping without being forced into an unlikely overtime. Kramerica finish in the top 3 for the 2nd consecutive year, this time improving from bronze to silver. Earlliance sneak up on Experience and laugh away with a 3rd that they will readily admit was entirely unlikely.
Teams that made serious bids for medals included Rash, Coconuts, Oedipus (5th), Rednecks (4th), Ray – Ray (correct #20 away from 2nd), etc, etc…
Night at the Movies, because of the dynamics of the audience super-imposed against the writer – will always be a boat race. High scores, fast scoring, and aggressive play have become the norm and are at this point expected. This creates an electric atmosphere when coupled with the big audience and genuine expectations of each table.. I think more people go into this game with legitimate hopes than any other major.
Here are the final results..
Muffins (10) – 101
Kramerica (5) – 97
Earlliance (9) – 94
Exp (6) – 94
Rednecks (9) – 89
Oedipus (10) – 88
Rash (8) – 79
Ray (10) – 77
#9 (6) – 77
JJ (7) 75
BBvBoE (10) – 69
Coconuts (8) – 59
B’steak (12) – 57
United (4) – 56
Playboys (5) – 44
Phasers (3) – 39
Special thanks to TJ Alexander, David Poth, and Brent Blackwell for handling the table set up and keeping shit tight while I drove in from Athens.. Anyone that spent time on 316 today understands exactly what I’m talking about as the entire University of Georgia headed either to the airport or Flarada at precisely the same time.. it was awesome.
Thanks to Britt for maintaining eyes on the hidden corners of the Brewhouse.. Thanks to the Brewhouse staff for their competence and thanks to the Triviaheads for, as always, being professional.
On to the Etta James game, trivia’s most elegant award…
