MTM XII: Week 2, Wednesday

Darby: Hail Mary’s was packed in Grayson as people noticed the lighter than normal turnout from last week and thought that it might be an easier place to qualify and/or pick up some performance points. Well, at least that’s what Fact Hunt told me, and then they saw 13 teams show up.
After the first quarter, scores were bunched, but at half time, Fact Hunt was holding on to the invitation. Old Yeller, who I believe will eventually be in the tournament, was chasing them down. Going into question 20, Fact Hunt bid the minimum and turned it in hoping that no one behind them would get it. That’s exactly what happened and they take 2nd and earn the invite. #9 playing with their core of 3 scored 103. And the Experience, who apparently are huge fans of Bobby Vinton, end up 3rd with 57.

TJ: 18 teams at Blind Pig seems to be the tournament norm. Up and down game for the house as United ends up at the top, Jimmy Jams take 2nd and your bubble team and 3rd place finishers are Bald So Hard. These guys have been playing at the Pig for about 18 months and this may have been the 4th time they’ve placed. They are, however, excited and will probably pay up next week. The most impressive score of the evening was an 84 from Jimmy Jams, impressive because they sat at 14 at halftime. Fun game to watch. Details…

United(7)-94-9
Jimmy Jams(7)-84-6
Bald So Hard(5)-78-3 *Bubble*
Phasers(6)-67
Denim Chicken(4)-64
Robot Monkeys(6)-64
Kitten Mittens(7)-61
Rash(4)-60

Bobby: Brewhouse was average busy for a tournament Wednesday and scores were equally average, except at the top..

Muffins (8) continue their assault on the cumulative with a 111 ftw. FFA (4) hamer out a workman-like 100, and Big Mike represents United (1) solo and takes a surprising and impressive 3rd with 89 (nice… real nice).

Others –

Chick (6) – 79 **Bubble**
BBvBoE (8) – 66
Gluttons (4) *pop*
Anal Herscheiser (2) – 57
Fetus (5) – 55 (7 at halftime)
Kramerica (5) – 46 *ouch*
Earlliance (1) – 42
Oedipus (1) 41
Cartel (2) 30

Brent: Johnny’s saw a nice crowd with 11 teams – more than half taking up multiple tables.  Ray-Ray dominated for 3 quarters and seemed poised for a big score, but the 4th took its toll and left them in a disappointing 4th (75).  This opened the door for Buckhead Rednecks to play catch-up, which they did, winning with 96.  Say Car Ramrod can look back at a scoresheet rife with bidding errors and think what could have been (all they missed in round 1 was the 7, all they got in round 4 was the 2), but they’ll settle for 2nd (95) and an invite to MTM, which they’re expected to accept on Tuesday.  3rd goes to Babrovsky, who are not expected to factor into MTM (89).  Cantonese Warriors (59) are pondering this tournament, but two slow weeks to open the thing might make them reluctant.  Migrating Coconuts (61) pay the freight and enter MTM XII.  Chipper’s Lipper (59), a talented young team, is mired in their first *ever* slump, which is bad timing and nothing more.

Scoreboard changes:
– Coconuts are now P.i.F.
– Fact Hunt are now P.i.F.
– Bald So Hard, Chick Filatio, and Say Car Ramrod are now ‘on the bubble’
– Gluttons, Darla let their bubble pop
