MTM XI Cumulative Scoreboard – FINAL

(thank god)

Canton (Darby): The Canton portion of the March Trivia Madness tournament came to an end at LaBamba (in what could be the final LaBamba game depending on how tomorrow’s meeting with management goes).
The game featured 5 tournament teams: Seoul Sisters, #9, Red Dead Samurai, Bobby Brown vs Board of Education, and Challenged plus two non tournament teams – Kilroy and Love of Travel.
The game started off promising for most tournament teams. But as the night wore on, Seoul Sisters led at every point update, #9 rebounded from a drop in the 2nd quarter, and Bobby Brown was watching the cumulative slip away.
In the end, #9 (2 participants) defeats Seoul Sisters (4 participants) in OT after both scored 95. (This was a error in bidding on Seoul Sisters part, if they bid 20 instead of 18, they win outright). Bobby Brown finishes with 89 and 3rd (3 participants). Red (3 participants) takes home 37 and Challenged (3 participants) 44.
I want to thank Bobby for allowing my shows to count for this year’s tournament. When Brent asked me to substitute host for him almost a year ago, I never thought that Bobby would incorporate me in his plans of world domination. To the teams that took the time to travel to the outskirts of Ball Ground, Canton, Grayson and even non-tournament eligible Dawsonville: Thank You. I am pleased to announce that Thursday at Uncle Peppers will be my 100th show and I invite you all to come and be a part of it.
Good luck to all on Saturday…and until next time I bid you a very heartfelt good night.

Athens (Bobby): Opening game in the Classic City Showdown for all the cumulative marbles kicked off @ Blind Pig with United holding a 3 point edge over Alliance, but with virtually every other advantage and tie-breaker in Alliance’s pocket. Bobby Brown also had plenty of room to add base points and were working a satellite crew in Canton to cover any and all bases.

In short, the cumulative was within reach of all 3 teams and truth be told, the circumstances were smiling a bit more to Alliance and the Board than United.

But 40 random questions would be the ultimate determiner and neither game proved to be completely easy, however both offered all 3 teams everything they needed to manage the task.

The wildcard in these types of situations is the field and their effect, and their effect would be substantial as numerous teams rose up and played well.

Most notable among them was Ears (5), who hammered out an impressive win in the opener due in large part to a wheel-house #10. Alliance (5) get a result, 2nd – and were feeling pretty solid heading downtown. United (7) HAD managed to blunt the result with a 3rd of their own, meaning it was a 3 point net increase for Alliance. This left the Alliance & United in a dead heat with one game to play. With a tie, a lower baseline, and the 1st tiebreaker (meaning in essence they were winning), things were more in Alliance’s favor at the break than at the start of the double header. Bobby Brown (8) even got a little good news as word trickled out of Tennessee that their satellite squad had added 4 points to their total.

Finals –

Ears – 95
Alliance – 88
United – 85
T2RB – 84
Rash – 73 (5)
Kittens – 68 (4)
B8Shaq – 61 (7)
BBvBoE – 47
Stepdads – 33 (3)
Phasers – 33 (3)
Fact Hunt – 31 (9)

So it all came down to Amici –

Heading in, the cumulative read

Alliance – 1157* (base 92)
United – 1157 (base 102)
BBvBoE – 1138 (base 89)

Realistically, Bobby Brown needed a win in one of the three games and needed to increase their baseline by 11-ish.

They were not mathematically eliminated from the cumulative until after question #19, meaning they played one meaningless question the entire cumulative and finished 3rd overall.

So Alliance & United dueled for the prize and in the end it would be United. Back to Back cumulative champs.. Add to that back to back WCoTs and a case can be made for United being the best everyday team in trivia AND the best head to head team as well… A St. Patrick’s Cup can take the ‘Big Game’ monkey off their collective back and perhaps give them an unprecedented triple of WCoT, Cumulative, & MTMXI Titles..

The final scores were (no attendance in these, I forgot to get them and the issue is settle anyway; BBvBoE is the Travel Award recipient)

United – 94
Ears – 86
Kitten Mittens – 75
BBvBoE – 67
Rash – 64
Alliance – 56
Phasers – 55
B8Shaq – 46
Fact Hunt – 36

An epic cumulative and a worthy champ. Hats off to Alliance for making this as close as it was with limited participation due to various things.

Kudos to BBvBoE, who in all honesty had this thing lying naked before them on an altar at least a half dozen times..

And finally – huzzahs for United, March Trivia Madness XI Cumulative Champions!

Brent: I present to you all, the final cumulative standings for March Trivia Madness XI.  I enjoyed hosting the scoreboard each night, so much that I’m quite pleased to present a bit of a surprise to some teams…

Listed next to your name is the # of seats you have qualified for at the finals (the # listed includes any bonus chairs earned).  The bottom 10 teams will probably find a pleasant surprise…

Now, because you’re all good teams and paid attention to the blog last week when we said we needed RSVP counts by Sunday night, that means you’ve already turned in a #, yes?  And if you haven’t, we’re going to assume you want 6 chairs (or 4, if you didn’t qualify for 6).  If you wake up Monday morning, read this, and think, “Hey, we want more than 6 and didn’t RSVP”, my suggestion is you get your ass to the Triviaheads page and beg for mercy… You were aware of the RSVP deadline, knuckleheads.

Also, just because this sort of thing always pops up every year, we want to stress a rule:  if you played for a team listed below during the tournament, you can’t switch teams for Super Saturday.

One Response to MTM XI Cumulative Scoreboard – FINAL

  1. Let Go of My Ears, I Know What I'm Doing says:

Congrats to United on the victory, and a job well done by Alliance, BBvBoE, and United for a nice run to make it entertaining. We have some new affiliates who have never seen the tourney in action, and this was a quality MTM for them to witness as their first.

Good luck to all teams, but with the caveat that I hope you catch a case of 24-hour retardation beginning about 7PM on April 20.

Now that I think about it, any of you ‘420’ friendly tourney teams…feel free to ‘celebrate’ as much as you possibly can right before the pairs game. I hear it helps people think more clearly….Ears needs all the help we can get Friday.
