Avondale (Bobby): Week number 9 kicked off @ Etta James Memorial Music Championship host location Brewhouse of Avondale with 8 tournament teams in attendance.
There were three main agendas from what I could tell –
Climbers – Muffins, Oedipus, BBvBoE
Slump Busters – P-Value, Stepdads, Donkey, Braves
(In all fairness, Braves are playing OK right now, not bad, not great – but OK)
and We’re just here to keep either Sunday game from getting anywhere near BBvBoE or Muffins – Alliance
So neither Sunday game got a re-asking and new trivia was asked. Good move by Alliance because this game proved more difficult for most.
In the end, Oedipus weren’t bothered by it in the slightest with a 111 (8)
Muffins rather enjoyed their 2nd place 87 (5) but would have loved to have heard one of those other games
BBvBoE tally a 77 (11) and will collect a tournament leading 94th 3rd place.
Oedipus are surging and in peak form presently, this is good news considering a game they have had circled on their calendar since its announcement, the EJMMC is waiting at week’s end. This could be a big moving week for Oedipus.
Muffins are drumbeat of consistency these days. Go ahead and pencil Muffins in for a 90 +/- 5 before your seat gets warm and the 1st pitchers arrives..
The light in BBvBoE’s eyes is slowly beginning to transform into the proverbial ‘1000 yard stare’. They’ve shown amazing depths of resiliency and dedication, but the grind is beginning to catch up with them. Someone on that team needs to rally the troops with some sort of locker room speech to see them through to the finish line..
Braves – 66 (5)
Stepdads – 60 (8)
Donkey – 55 (2)
P-Value – 46 (5)
Alliance – 40 (2)
Balls of Steel 77
Angry Planners 67 (4)
Educated Guess 63
Cartel – 28 (2)
No appearance from Sauced…
Canton (Brent): 10 teams in the house, with half being participants in MTM XI. The entire game, #9 played very well, with Challenged right on their heels. The 4th quarter played to #9’s (105) strengths and they pulled away, hammering home the point on #20 for a commanding win.
Challenged (68) wisely back off any foolish moves at the end and take 2nd. They’re finding themselves in the money more and more these days.
A non-tournament team, the 3 P’s, were in the top 3 all night until the final question, when Hazel Destroy (59) came out of nowhere to finish 3rd. HD had had a pretty rough night to that point, and a hail mary on #20 connected to salvage their evening.
Red (54) also got #20 right for 20. That tells you enough about how their night went. It should be noted that this week Red is still without Big Mike, their ace, and just to compound the problems, Tom, the co-pilot of this team, is now out of town. Cobbling together 54 without their better players is nothing to sneeze at.
Donkey Balls (52) tried a split squad tonight, with Ben flying solo, and he was one question away from a 2nd place finish.
