MTM XI, Week 8 – Thursday update

Ball Ground (Darby): A good competitive game of trivia saw 6 teams in the house. Red Dead Samurai, Bobby Brown V BoE, Challenged, Seoul Sisters, S.K.A.B, and an ineligible Hazel Destroy all made the trip to Uncle Peppers.

The first quarter played a little easy with BBvBOE 1 point away from perfect. At the end of the 1st half they had a 46-37 lead over Red Dead Samurai. At the end of the 3rd it looked like the game was going to be a runaway as they held a 72-49-49 lead over Red Dead Samurai and Seoul Sisters.

All BBvBOE needs to do is hold serve in the fourth quarter, and they got tripped up on question 17. Categorized as a Difficult Peanuts Comics question, BBvBOE had thought they had it noodled out and threw away their 8 point bid. They end up getting question #16 right for 4 and #18 right for 6 points. At the 2:00 warning they are now only leading 82-63 over Seoul Sisters with Red Dead Samurai and Challenged tied at 51. It’s no longer a runway. If they bid six there, I’m sure they still get #18 right, except this time for 8. A two point swing that would have put them in the lead 84-63 which means at worse they would end tying for first.

Instead, they had now put themselves in a position where they HAD to get #20 right. A television question that Seoul Sisters knew immediately put even more pressure on BB as they watched Seoul Sister confidently walk their answer up. Knowing that 3rd place couldn’t catch them and that they had to get it right to win, they bid #20 hoping to not only win but improve their weekly score to 102.

But alas, they were wrong and Seoul Sisters win the game after only leading after 1 question – the last one. Seoul Sisters win with 83 (6 participants). Bobby Brown v BOE earns 2nd with 72 (3 participants). Challenged 50 (6 participants) defeats Red Dead Samurai 50 (5 participants) in over time as Laney & Dustin play their final trivia game before moving to South Korea.

Hazel Destroy and S.K.A.B end the night tied with 37.

Uncle Pepper’s is really excited about hosting the Pairs Game, and the owner Chris is really interested in playing in it. This guy has played a couple of times when we were slow just to fill out a show and has been very impressive. #9 has expressed interest in playing. The game is April 14th and you can buy in online by going tohttp://hardhittingtrivia.wordpress.com/pairs-game/ and clicking on the Buy Now icon.

My next show is Friday night at the Old Towne Pizza in Dawsonville at 8pm but is a NON-TOURNAMENT show. They also don’t have their beer license yet, but come out anyway.

Gainesville (Bobby): Normal crowd for Thursday, which is to say – good. Many Canton teams taking advantage of MoBar as Ray-Ray, Alliance, & Coconuts drive east.

In the end, Alliance (3) are rewarded for the effort with a throw away 85, but a useful 9 bonus points.

#9 (9) continue to collect performance points with a 74.
