MTM XI – Week 7 FINAL!

Athens (Bobby): United x 2 …

Lighter than usual crowd at the Pig were punished with tournament tough trivia as we hit the stretch run of MTMXI.

In the end, United post a very worthy 89 (3) which, all things considered, was as impressive as any 110+ game posted so far this year. Alliance had a similar game Thursday @ MoBar (90) in that they really screwed the curve up for a game that would have been a winner in most rooms @ 75.

Speaking of Alliance – the cumulative leaders were in attendance looking to keep the pedal down and the throttle open against a BBvBoE squad that is hounding them at every point update these days. Alliance needed to go north of 90 to add base-line scoring and of course any bonus points would be a welcome addition to the resume that is presently under construction. The latter happened as they’ll gladly collect 6 bonus points on a 78 (4).

B8Shaq (8) limp home with 3rd after looking like a winner for a large chunk of the night

Also –

Ears 59 (6)
Phasers 56 (8)
T2Rb – 44 (7)
Rash – 32 (4)
Kittens – 29 (4)

Amici –

Slightly (very slightly) less difficult game @ Amici, but definitely requiring a girl/pop culture guru to completely exploit its potential.

In the end, United had one and post an old fashioned Athens double with another very impressive score of 102 (7)

Ears throw a hail Mary on the last play and collect 2nd with an 83 (4)

Fact Hunt are the unlucky 3rd this time with 78 (10) after reeling United in late and looking every part the winner heading into #20.

also –

Kittens are the victim of Ears’ Hail Mary and find themselves out of the top 3 for the 1st time all night at the end 57 (4)

Alliance – 47 (5)
T2RB – 45 (4)
Rash – 44 (6)
Phasers – 44 (3)
B8Shaq – 41 (4)

PS – last weeks record shattering performance by “Legen (wait for it) Dary” was followed up by a not nearly as horrible 30, which meant they had 40 going into #20. Kudos for coming back and not really all that bad considering the level of difficulty…

Canton (Darby): 11 Teams playing at LaBamba on Sunday night including tournament teams: Red Dead Samurai, #9, Seoul Sisters, Bobby Brown v BoE, McNutski and an ineligible Hazel Destroy.

A high scoring first and second quarter sent teams straight for a booby-trap #10. Surely a phobia question can’t be this obvious, it wasn’t, and it cost a lot of teams 5 points. The third quarter played pretty regular with the music question bringing a lot of folks back from the dead.

The fourth quarter is where the screws started tightening and going into the 2:00 warning Bobby Brown vs BoE had 77, Red Dead Samurai and #9 both tied at 71. Seoul Sisters was best of the rest with 60, McNutski had 46, and Hazel Destroy proving that I’m not providing them with any information whatsoever earns the last place Tacos with 34.

The fourth quarter was completely reworked after #15. I had thought about the game for a couple of hours prior and really did not like the order. Originally ending the game with a Harry Houdini question, I reordered almost everything and ended with a Central America question.

I always struggle writing #20. And as soon as I asked it, looking around the room, I knew I had made the correct decision. Two thoughts were being discussed, what’s the right answer, and what the hell do we bid…in the end, Seoul Sisters connected with a twenty point bid to win with 80 points (4 participation). Bobby Brown (5 people) settles for 2nd with 69. #9 (1 participant) loss 3 points to drop to 68. Red Dead Samurai (4) with 65 is snake bitten with bidding and crossing off answer issues. They also will be losing some members to teach in South Korea very soon. I imagine they will find Brett from Seoul Sisters and start terrorizing South Korea trivia venues.

Hard luck forth place goes to McNutski. If they bid the minimum on #10 they earn 2nd, but instead finish with 66.

Final scores among eligible tournament teams:
1st Seoul Sisters 80 – (4)
2nd Bobby Brown 69 – (5)
3rd #9 – (1) (Brent: Darby didn’t send me a score, but regardless of whether it’s 67 or 68, it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things)
4th McNutski 66 – (2)
5th Red Dead Samurai – 65 (4)

We also had our 3rd team pay into the Uncle Pepper’s pairs game on April 12. More info at:https://www.facebook.com/events/346470448729354/

Brent: Included, as per usual on Sunday, are current seat standings for MTM XI…
