The half-way point of the tournament also marks our 100th post here at fullcontacttrivia.com! We’re approaching 20,000 views… That’s pretty cool seeing as how the site only went public mid-way through last year’s tournament…
On to more important things!
Trivia in 5 locations tonight… And the same game was asked at each venue… Let’s see how you did…
Brewhouse in Little 5 Points (Bobby): Gluttons – 108 (6)
Muffins 102 (8)
FFA 94 (10) (defeated ‘Worst Team Ever’ in OT)
Oedipus – 78 (8)
Kramerica – 76 (6)
BBvBoE – 76 (7)
P-Value – 70 (6)
Donkey – 47 (3)
as predicted, the game hinged on #10 & #20.
Gluttons were the only team to get #10 – for 2 points. Their entire lead for the rest of the game was due to those 2 points and the points lost by other teams.
The music trivia nearly undid them as Kramerica & Oedipus nailed #15 and crept to within a few points each.
#20 was answered correctly by 5 teams – Gluttons, Muffins, and the OT teams along with Donkey Balls.
Gluttons have verbalized a preference for TJ’s trivia over any other DJs fwiw.
Grayson (Darby): only two tournament teams in the house tonight #9 posts a 93 and earns 2nd place. Buckhead Rednecks posts a 70 for 3rd place.
Carrollton (Bryan): Sauced (88) win while they still are begging for a name change… It will be discussed… Cartel (42) improves their weekly score but not by enough to notice.
Canton (Brent): 16 teams & 70 Triviaheads playing in Canton… That’s actually 0.3% of Canton’s population (which may seem like a small number, but that’d be like 1,278 people showing up to an Atlanta game)… I’m quite proud of the little weekly trivia frenzy we’ve established in my neck of the woods.
Anyway, the game started out with a lot of scoring over the first 9 questions and it hit a halt on the Woody Allen halftime question… Ray-Ray and Red Dead Samurai were mirror images of each other nearly the entire game and by the 2nd half, it was clear they would battle for 1st place. For the first 9 questions, I got the same answer from each of them for the same bid aside from one music question which Red got and RayRay didn’t. On #10, Red missed it for -2 while Ray-Ray got it for 2 to put the Partay up 36-34. The 3rd Q saw more mirror images – both went 8 – 6 – 4 –
2 in that order. On the 3Q music, Ray-Ray was very close to correct on a 70’s song, but Red nailed it, and this put the Samurai up 64-62. 4Q was more of the same. Both teams went 2-8-6-4 and didn’t miss any question. On #20, however, Red (104) nailed it immediately for 20 while Ray-Ray (81) did the smart thing and took their points. A fantastic battle between the two that really only I was privy to – Red and Ray-Ray had only 4 different answers for different bids for the ENTIRE NIGHT… Outstanding. Red Dead Samurai are shifting into another gear lately, especially when the full team is together, like tonight – keep an eye on them in the cumulative, now that they know there’s something they could actually get out of it. Sneaking into 3rd with a correct answer on #20 was Seoul Sisters (77), who seem to be playing better and better as they get more trivia under their belts.
Hazel Destroy (33) continues to miss Brian who was busy hosting in Grayson. At least they know they didn’t beat themselves. Sarah played a strategically sound game (better than even Red did, bidding-wise) – Brian would’ve been proud. But sometimes the trivia beats you instead. Tonight was one of those times.
Challenged (60) almost resembled the Challenged of old… Almost… McNuttski (60) seem understandably overwhelmed by the magnitude and scope of the tournament. Seeing teams of 10 post scores in the 100’s every week is daunting when you’re a team of 2 who can’t get together with your teammates. Trust me… But the cumulative is only a single part and while it is important to secure some seats, it’s not everything. McNuttski are not built to do well in the cumulative – they’re small and they don’t know enough of the *easy* trivia. But they know a LOT of the hard trivia (like the African geography question tonight)… And that’s what makes them oddly suited for Super Saturday. I know it’s counter-intuitive to think that, but we see it time and time again. It’s the Yosef factor…
Coconuts (58) are mired in an offweek. Jesus, how far have the Coconuts come when I’m calling 58 points an off-week? Good for them.
Also, and I hope Crawford is reading this, but I had a team tonight called Miami Sucks. I lavished them with free things and high praise all night… Because they are correct.
Athens (TJ): 21 teams at The Blind Pig on Wednesday, Seven tournament teams and one DJ who started making up words near the end of the game. Team #35, Fact Hunt found themselves in charge for most of the night but fell short on #20. Members of Jimmy Jams make appearances as Alliance (35) and B8shaq as the free agency period starts. Team Without a Name snipe first after not being able to qualify for 4 weeks. B8shaq (94) and T2RB (94) end the game tied for 2nd with B8shaq winning OT.
Beaver Feaver (83)
Kitten Mittens (56)
Editor’s note: TJ forgot to send me Fact Hunt’s score, but since TJ is a giant and giants are known to kill out of sheer boredom, we’ll forgive him… As of now, I asterisked Fact Hunt’s weekly score… That’s right, you just got Maris-ed, Fact Hunt. Fact Hunt’s score is NOW fixed…
