Carrollton (Bryan): Balls of Steel (94) continue to play well but still haven’t bought in, as they pick up the win tonight. Cartel (93) takes 2nd, while Sauced (86) takes 3rd and requests a team name change… Alliance and Angry Planners find themselves out of the money.
Canton (Brent): Jimmy Jams traveled from Athens hoping to procure an invite, but the game started off pretty terribly, with the first half yielding only 8 points for JJ. They made a comeback late, though, and finished 3rd with 68. 2nd was MTM-entrant Red Dead Samurai (73), but 1st went to non-MTM team Ramrod (90), who block Jimmy Jams from getting the invite… I do not have Ramrod listed in the scoreboard, as I’m trying to get this posted quickly, and will add them tomorrow, but I know they missed one week, and I’m thinking their total score would be in the ~225-235 range. They’re considering the tournament, but I made clear the uphill battle they’d be facing. Even more proof the universe is working against Jimmy Jams after they passed up their opportunity to join? Ramrod usually plays Tuesdays and tonight was the first Monday they’ve ever played…. and they’re old HS classmates of one of the members of Jimmy Jams… Here’s hoping JJ gets their invite on Wednesday. Challenged (61) still can’t get an invite, but until this point I wasn’t even really sure they were trying. Coconuts (36) and McNuttski (60) make appearances while High Rollers let their bubble burst, only to follow it up with a 39 point performance.
Avondale (Bobby): Eight teams getting down @ Brewhouse in Avondale and only 2 were unqualified for the tournament.
51 players from many of our ‘name brand’ franchises, like Oedipus, Bobby Brown, Buckhead Rednecks, and Muffins…
A team to watch this year is Stepdads. After a baptism of fire in MTM X, the ‘dads have a firm grasp of the task ahead and the confidence to take it on. In spite of missing week #1, they entered and began posting quality scores and pulling bonus points from venues deep with talent.
Tonight they led until a misplaced 8 point bid at the onset of round 4 and wound up settling for 2nd (99 – 6 (9)) against Oedipus (101 – 9 (10)), a team that routinely punishes such mistakes. Bobby Brown’s (93 – 3 (3))lost 8 pointer in the previous round dooms them to 3rd.
Muffins – 91 (4)
Rednecks – 83 (4)
Braves – 71 (6) – PAID, team #31
Donkey – 35 (5)
Chick – 34 (2)
The final verdict on number of teams is we’ll take 35 teams this year, 31 of which are presently spoken for.
Teams number 26 through 30 will be allotted 3 players and teams 31 through 35 will earn 2 seats.
If available, extra seats will be available for purchase…
ok, scoreboard time…
Note from Brent: I accidentally left Phasers out of the Sunday update. Whatever their score is here can be retro-applied to the Sunday update to more accurately see where they fit in with everything. Also, newly invited team Ramrod’s score is estimated above while I corral their scores from past weeks… I haven’t been tracking them after they missed week 1 and while their performance is always stellar, their attendance is somewhat spotty…
