Ball Ground (Darby): If you look up heartbreaking in the dictionary, you will find tonight’s game. 8 Teams were in the house at Uncle Pepper’s. Joining already qualified High Rollers and Hazel Destroy were the Trunk Monkeys who allowed their invite to expire. The Pink Panthers who last week were known as the 49ers. Double J played after a long absence (and didn’t even show up until question 5). Challenged made their presence known, and the team that I keep hoping will make it in this tournament, Seoul Sisters.
At the end of the 1st quarter, Seoul Sisters is in the lead with 21, followed by Challenged with 20. Last place was Double J with 6. End of the 2nd quarter, Challenged has taken the lead with 45, followed by Seoul Sisters with 34. Double J now has 24. During the 3rd quarter things just started clicking for Seoul Sisters. After a tricky bonus, Seoul Sisters has 62, a three-way tie for 2nd with 45 and Double J has climbed to 44.
The fourth quarter is where the Seoul Sisters started to resemble last year’s Braves. After a night where crossing off wrong answers and putting down right ones, nothing was clicking for them. And their lead had shriveled down to 66-58 over Double J at the 2:00 warning with Challenged having 45.
Final question, Double J completes the upset with a correct 20 point bid, 78 points and earns the invite, but more importantly denying the invite to Seoul Sisters and Challenged who went to over time to settle a 65-65 tie which Seoul Sisters won.
Am I rooting for Seoul Sisters? Yes. Why? Because when I decided to start hosting trivia, they were there for my first game. They just showed up and they’ve been coming ever since. I am pulling for them, and they just keep coming up a tad bit short. With the tournament almost full, I hope that they can get their full squad to LaBamba Sunday night at 7:30. I hope that they can get in before the door slams. We’ll find out Sunday night…
Gainesville (Bobby): 75 trivia players in a packed house sees the Alliance show up relatively full strength and grimly hold on for an OT win over the searching Pabst Playboys 81(5) – 81(9). Come Correct (80 & 3)stage a furious 2nd half rally to snipe an unlikely 3rd.
Playboys finally reel in the invitation they’ve been chasing, and a well earned invite as they narrowly have defeated #9 and lost in OT to Alliance in the past three nights.
I am extending Lin, Lin, Lin’s bubble until next Thursday but I will attempt to discourage them from entering based on their anemic cumulative score and the current seating system. Still, they asked if they could pay tonight and I was unable to lay out the dangers at the point they asked.. so they’ll stay on the bubble on the off chance they don’t care about having 2 seats …
Ray-Ray 32 – 2
Oedipus 52 – 4 (& 19 – 21 on the ping pong table)
#9 63 (8)
FMAF 59 (4)
Simple Minds 77 (3)
A bit of foreshadowing for Athens..
Experience were down with an illness and unable to get to G’ville, they’ll no doubt make an appearance in Athens Sunday.
All hands to the pump on the SS Jimmy Jams if they plan on playing in this year’s finals. B8Shaq are also still window shopping a bid as are Phasers…
I expect 2 big crowds.. Get there early, with game faces ON…
