Carrollton (Bryan): The 3 winners don’t appear to be likely entrants… Balls of Steel and Razor Burn post scores, but Razor’s bubble bursts while Balls still looks for an invite. They might enter, if they don’t run out of time.
Athens (TJ): 18 teams pile into The Blind Pig which is the highest number we’ve had since we broke 20 back in August. Threat Level Midnight lets their bubble burst and let it be known they have no interest in entering MTM. Several big name teams show up in an attempt to score points and qualify. Jimmy Jams, B8shaq, and United are all in the top 4 throughout the night until the end when Jimmy Jams and United fall off on a tough #20. Blind Pig regulars Beaver Feaver take 1st and are your new bubble team. They all but guaranteed that they would buy in next week. These guys played week 1 of Blind Pig Wednesdays and have only missed 2 or 3 weeks since we started last year. They have gotten better each week and a win in a room packed with FCT talent should show they shouldn’t be overlooked. B8shaq has a heart breaking 2nd place finish after bidding 2 and nailing the bonus and have still yet to qualify.
Atlanta (Bobby): P-Value are team #26 meaning tonight’s trivia counted EIGHT tournament teams among the 15 playing. 85 Triviaheads in the room.
I ran a modified version of Darby’s game. The game produced a big scoring 1 thru 19, with #20 being the make or break for truly sick scores.
In the end, the chips fell like so…
Muffins 101 – 9 (8)
P-Value 91 – 6 (6)
Stepdads 90 – 3 (10)
BBvBoE – 80 (10)
Kramerica 74 (5)
Oedipus 72 (3)
FFA 69 (5)
BTS.c 69 (7) BUBBLE
Chick 68 (6)
Donkey 52 (3)
Brainfreeze 52 (5)
Gluttons 43 (7)
5 teams had a chance to finish with 100+ points save #20. ‘dads and BBvBoE had opportunities to finish 110+… #20 was huge tonight…
Grayson (Darby): Report from Grayson, 7 teams in the house including MTM heavyweights Buckhead Rednecks, Oedipus and the Mamas Boys, and the Maroons.
The game started with Giselle not only deciding that they don’t want to be in tournament but that they miss being able to weekly change their name. So tonight they were known as “To Be Named Later” and scored a whoping 97 points to win the game. They get the invite again, but act as if they don’t want it. Unbelievable.
2nd place was the Maroons with 68. They want to be in the tourney and were begging me to allow them to take the invite. I begged them to explain that to Bobby when he had my shorts up a flag pole.
3rd place after only having 5 points at the end of round 1 was the Buckhead Rednecks with 63.
Canton (Brent): Johnny’s saw a record # of trivia players and teams tonight, with 76 trivia players in the room on 21 teams. Remarkably, few were MTM teams or contenders for it… Coconuts showed up a night after buying in, and still off the high of last night’s shocking win, play like crap and score 25. Who cares… they’re in… Red Dead Samurai’s dominance of the first 2 weeks seems to be wearing off a bit, as they make a terrible error on #20 and finish with 62. If they’re a bit more careful, they have a high score of 92 and a win tonight… But alas… Seoul Sisters came thinking it’d be a low-key, nice atmosphere for qualifying, but they instead got a taste of what happens when school is out – madness at Johnny’s… They played well but faltered at the end (like most teams) and finish with 43. This team will play tomorrow and likely Sunday, and they are WAYYY overdue an invite to MTM… I predict they get it tomorrow at Uncle Pepper’s. The only MTM team to come away with any tangible success was Ray-Ray’s Partay, which wisely played #20 safe and finished 2nd with 72. Non-MTM team Flogging Murphys were the only team to get #20 correct and won, blocking invites from interested parties.
Alright, so in summation on what might very well have been the most attended night of Full Contact Trivia EVER…
– Muffins get on track after a relatively slow start and are now in the thick of the cumulative race
– B8Shaq, Maroons, Balls of Steel, and Seoul Sisters are still trying to secure their invite and all keep getting blocked by seemingly uninterested teams. Frustrating, I’m sure…
– The top 8 teams are all within 20 points of one another in the cumulative. Ears and T2RB could potentially make that 10 with good games on Sunday… This entire cumulative race is going to be epic, folks.
And most importantly, welcome to March Trivia Madness XI, P Value. You are team #26!
If you want in this thing and still aren’t qualified, call in your reinforcements and play a lot at the end of this week….
