MTM XI, Week 2 FINAL

Scores, highlights from Sunday:

Canton: In what was the best night ever at LaBamba, 11 teams and 51 people gave some life into a trivia show that needed it. The show started with Canine Ranch deciding not to pay and their bubble burst. A hard fought game with multiple lead changes came down to a #20 that ended up as a bad social, but left one team wishing that they had held their answer a little longer.

Your winner tonight was Swichs with 70 points. 2nd place M. Will with 66. 3rd place went to already qualified Hazel Destroy with 63. 4th place best of the rest tonight was a short handed Seoul Sisters. Seoul Sisters scored 59 with a near-miss on #20, with just Savannah and her parents in tow. Folks, Savannah is the real deal. I’ve watched Seoul Sisters play with and without her, and trivia teams need to always pay attention when she shows up. I’m starting to realize that she is the secret weapon, and if her team ever breaks up, other teams need to sign her to a long term free agent contract. Seoul Sisters is competing hard to get into this tournament and it would break my heart if they come up short. I’m hoping enough spots stay open long enough for them to join.  Swichs looked like they will give serious consideration to being in the tournament and if they join, they appear to be very well rounded academically, and musically. They were 1-4 on sports. So, let’s see what happens…  Migrating Coconuts also are looking for an invite but Brady picked the wrong night to try to fly solo at La Bamba…

Carrollton: Alliance makes week 2 a two-front war as a 2 man team wins in Carrollton with 60 points while the main squad took the battle to Athens.  While the Athens group improved the scoring, Alliance-Carrollton held their own with a win, notching 9 big performance points that clearly make a difference in the standings below.  Domestic Violence takes 2nd with 56 and debuts on the leaderboard as a bubble team.  Disappearing was 3rd place Balls of Steel, who apparently let their bubble burst.  How sad.

Athens: 105 people in the house @ Blind Pig and according to my attendance figures, 93 were playing trivia… Easily a Sunday record for Blind Pig and the best early Sunday show of all time.
Tournament level trivia with big names in attendance,
Alliance represent with a pair of tassels, Big Steve and the Niners make the road trip, T2Rb show up with an entry fee check already filled out (nice), Ears are @ full strength for the 1st time this tournament, United are in attendance with B8Shaq one table away.. Jimmy Jams, Mullet, Phasers, Michael Bolton…

Deeeeep water..

T2RB are prophetic and win with 84, pay cash on the barrell. 2 time World Cup of Trivia champs ‘United’ cash in their green ticket for a table at the finals as well but finish well out of the money.
Michael Bolton touches me finish 2nd and are an emerging force to reckoned with. Alliance gather up the remains of a 3rd place finish.

Jimmy Jams are no doubt wondering what the fuck is the matter with whoever decided to allow their bubble to burst on Wednesday as they may be down to a single chance to get qualified at this point. B8Shaq would also be a shock exclusion from the finals. Mullet finish well, but no invite or cash to show for their effort and Rosa Parks re-emerge as ‘Silky Biscuits’ and are competitive until #20.

Amici-  Ears employ the ‘two-quarterback’ system to great effect, tallying 100 points and 9 precious bonus points. United play a little more United-like with a 90 point 2nd place finish. #9 hammer down a correct #20, one of only 2 in the room to earn a dramatic come from behind 3rd.  Kitten Mittens are 4th and they pay the freight to play in the World Championships. Rash are the 4th team to enter Sunday and will play in their 3rd World Championship finals.

By my reckoning, we finish week #2 with 23 teams PAID.
I’m hearing tales of a Wednesday team set to enter @ Blind Pig (24?) and P-Value has stated their intent to enter @ Brewhouse (25?). I Know High Rollers are a possibility (26?) and Trivia Newton John & Lin Lin Lin (27 & 28?) both showed interest in Gainesville.

That is without mentioning Jimmy Jams, B8Shaq, Gluttons, Boston Braves, Coconuts, Challenged, Phasers, Stepdads, Seoul Sisters, Pabst Playboys, and the other 3 or 4 teams I know I’m either forgetting or are not at my locations…

Remember – seating for this year’s tournament is linked to the cumulative…
