Carrollton – Angry Planners enter March Trivia Madness prior to the game and then proceed to win with 81 points. 2nd place goes to “Kevin Costner Took Saturday Off”, who becomes our bubble team for this week. No word on whether or not Costner has plans for the 3rd Saturday in April. 3rd place honors go to tournament team Sauced, as Cartel De Jesus and Balls of Steel are shut out of the cash.
Canton – McNuttski ponies up the $$$ and enters the tournament. Unfortunately, they were distracted by kids and mustered only 45 points. Meanwhile, Red Dead Samurai continued their reign of terror in Canton, winning with 82, and it could/should have been more, getting #20 correct but only bidding enough to protect their lead. Playing in Canton is going to be both good and bad for Samurai’s scores – they’re gonna pile up performance points by the dozens, but the occasional lack of a team to really threaten them is going to lull them into lower-than-necessary scores. 2nd place goes to High Rollers, a team that was one bad bid away from beating Muffins and reaching the final four. Rollers get the invite to MTM, and I hope they play. They’re one of my smartest teams, and as the World Cup showed, they play really well when there’s a lot on the line.
Avondale – Wild Card, Bitches wins with 101 and gets the invite. I can only imagine what their score would be if they had played a game last week. Oedipus, who posted their entry fee prior to the festivities, take 2nd with a score of 100, vaulting them to the top of the leaderboards. That’s two 100+ point games for Oedipus in this tournament. Or, as United calls it – a standard Sunday. 3rd place goes to Bobby Brown vs. the Board of Education, who are right on Oedipus’ heels with over 200 points in week 2.
Now, on to the leaderboard. If you see yourself up over a bunch of teams, that’s good, but pay attention to the “Current high” column. That’s your high score for the current week. So if you’re beating the team just below you by 7 points, then odds are, if they play this week (and they will – teams don’t miss weeks in MTM once they’re in), they’ll probably be back ahead by the end of the week. Also, the “Current high” column gives you a good idea of which teams could stand to travel to play other games during the week. Oedipus, for example, really doesn’t need to help their score. Balls of Steel, on the other hand, would have a lot to gain from playing again…
