Note: Sorry this is up late – I posted it around 1 AM last night and apparently it didn’t finish uploading…
Bryan: Tough night out west. Top three spots are swept by non-tournament teams in what can only be considered a defensive struggle. Halftime scores for the room were > 23 and in the end a 73 takes the win.
Lims and Lams 73
Poisedon’s Trident 52
Loud Stick! 51
What’s My Name is in attendence and adds 6 to their attendence for the tournament.
Brent: Canton was a tale of two groups tonight: Ray-Ray and Posse are finely tuned machines right now that are playing as well as ever, surviving tough bonuses to post 112 and 107, respectively (Ray-Ray was closest to full-strength as I’ve seen them since the Twisted Tavern days). From the top 2 scores, one might think it was a scoring free-for-all for everyone.
It wasn’t. Red still can’t shake the funk and they finish with 45. Other good teams, teams that have routinely beaten Ray-Ray and Posse before, finish in the 30’s. Challenged takes 3rd with 70, a good 37 points away from 2nd.
Scores, attendance, all that…
1. Ray-Ray – 112 – 9 bonus – 6 attn
2. Posse – 107 – 6 bonus – 2 attn (+2 base)
3. Challenged – 70 – 3 bonus – 7 attn (+28 base)
Red – 45 – 3 attn
Bobby: Wednesday was an exhibition of tournament muscle – Bobby Brown, Muffins, United made appearances along with Kramerica, Boston Braves, Step Dads, and Tip.
Every team played well until question #20, with Tip’s 59 being the low water mark. Tip wound up in 5th with 79.. Braves tally 69, dads – 61, United – 63.
Muffins play their usual above average game and take down 3rd with a 103, Bobby Brown add 21 to their bottom line and 6 for 2nd with 105…
The big news was the triumphant return of Kramerica. First off, they were at full strength give or take a player and they played as though they had something to prove – 23 at the end of the 1st, trailing only Muffins’ perfect opening frame. 45 at halftime saw them eyeball to eyeball with Bobby Brown…
The 3rd quarter saw them sprint out of the locker room to a 10 point lead as the dulcet tones of the Redcoat Marching Band announced the 4th quarter’s arrival… This, the point of so many collapses.. how would it happen this time? Goofy bidding? Crossing out correct answers? Indecision? Strife? Maybe the person that knew #20 would leave after #19
A- None of the above
They leave a mere 4 2nd half points on the field and storm to a 117 – the message to the many contenders for the Cup on hand was – ‘When we’re here, we’re able’
You have to bear in mind that Kramerica HAD been a top 3 team at both locations for the entire winter leading up to the tournament. Indeed, they had turned James Joyce into their own lil personal ATM machine, winning for 3 and 4 weeks stretches, only interrupted with the OCCASIONAL 2nd or 3rd…
Then the tournament started and the bed wetting began. Every year one or two teams seems to get the tournament funk, and this year – in different ways – it has been Kramerica and Pabst Playboys. Kramerica might have taken the monkey off their collective back and choke slammed it Wednesday…
